Srinagar, 24 April: After month-long frequent spells of rain and snow in Jammu and Kashmir, mostly dry and sunny weather is expected over the next 7 days.

In the first 23 days, Srinagar received a total rainfall of 149.5mm against normal rainfall of 90.8mm and is 3rd highest in 30 years in the month of April.
In 2017 Srinagar recorded a total rainfall of 193.7mm followed by 164.1mm in 2015.

As per Faizan Arif – an independent weather forecaster (Kashmir Weather) – the frequent spells of rain and snow this year in April can be linked to the Arctic cold blast, that caused unseasonal snowfall in many European countries. But now conditions have changed and mostly dry and sunny weather is expected till the month-end. A weak Western Disturbance is possible around 28 and may bring light rain/thundershowers at some places.

Srinagar City recorded a minimum temperature of 5.4 degrees Celsius, an increase of 0.8 degrees over the last night.

The mercury in Pahalgam tourist resort in south Kashmir went down from the previous night’s low of 0.8 degrees Celsius to settle at a low of minus 1.6 degrees Celsius.

Gulmarg in north Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 3.4 degrees Celsius, a drop of 1.2 degrees over the previous night.

The mercury in Qazigund – the gateway town to the valley in south Kashmir – settled at a low of 3.2 degrees Celsius.

The night temperature in Kokernag, in the south, and Kupwara, in the north, settled at a low of 2.7 and 4.5 degrees Celsius respectively.
