Srinagar, Nov, 05: Former student leader and activist, Shehla Rashid Shora has secured the top slot in the recently declared provisional selection list for the post of Assistant Professor (AP) of Sociology, in the higher education department.
The list was declared by the Public Service Commission (PSC) on November 3 after the completion of the recruitment process. A total of 28 vacancies for the APs in Sociology were advertised, and 82 candidates who successfully passed the written examination were invited for interviews.
Out of the 28 candidates who made it to the final list, a total of 14 candidates qualified in the open merit, three in RBA, three in SC, three in ST, and two in EWS. Moreover, one candidate was selected in the ALC-IB category, one in PSP, and one in SLC.
Shehla Rashid, the first Kashmiri woman to become a Vice-President of the students’ union at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) topped the list in open merit while Wasiya Hamid secured the second slot.
An NIT Srinagar graduate, Shehla completed her bachelor’s in 2011. She holds a master’s degree in Sociology from JNU and is currently pursuing PhD from the same university. Additionally, she also possesses a master’s degree in International Relations (IR).
