SRINAGAR | June 30, 2025 —
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today inaugurated a significant Buyer-Seller Meet at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, marking a vital step toward economic empowerment of local artisans and entrepreneurs.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister highlighted the objective of the initiative: “This initiative is aimed at empowering our artisans and strengthening the local economy by creating direct market linkages and promoting local products.”
The event brings together 15 international and 30 national buyers, offering a platform for Kashmir’s craftsmen, weavers, and producers to showcase their unique handmade products and establish sustainable trade relationships.
Officials stated that the meet is expected to open new marketing channels for local crafts such as Pashmina, Sozni embroidery, carpets, paper-mâché, and walnut wood carving—thereby not only preserving the region’s cultural heritage but also enhancing income for thousands of families dependent on traditional livelihoods.
The Buyer-Seller Meet is part of a broader strategy by the government to revitalize Jammu & Kashmir’s handicraft sector and integrate it with global markets.
