Nehru Yuva Kendra Srinagar celebrated State Level National Youth Day at T K College of Education Lawaypora Srinagar to commemorate the birth anniversary of youth icon Swami Vivekananda.
The programme was Inaugurated by Shr Shahijahan SDPO West Srinagar in presence of Shri Zahoor Hussain Rather Corporator SMC Ward No 17 Hamdaniya Colony, Shri Ghulam Rasool Corporator SMC Ward No 20 Zainakot, Smt Nusrat Rehman Principal T K College of Education Lawaypora, Dr A A Tahir, Dr Mohammad Maqbool, Dr Ab Majeed. Mr Rahi Riyaz Ahmed TOT NYKS delivered a lecture on the history, philosophy and achievements of Swami Vivekananda which led to the Government of India adopting his birth anniversary as National Youth Day.
On the occasion, various activities such as presentation of cultural activities, Karatay Activities and Dramas were played by different youth clubs and Mahila Mandals.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Shahijahan SDPO West said that Swami Vivekananda belonged to the 19th century, yet his message and his life are more relevant now than in his time. He said that Vivekananda was highly critical of the ‘educated’ who do not care for the poor and downtrodden. Being a proponent of scientific temper, he did not discard reason in favour of faith and believed that the truth derived from intuition had to be explained and systematized by reason.
Shri Shahijahan SDPO West further stated that the basis of Vivekananda’s nationalism was deep concern for masses, freedom and equality through which one expresses self, spiritual integration on the basis of universal brotherhood.
