Police Department Installs CCTV Cameras in Nook and Corner of Press Colony

October 9, 2020

Is recent Vilification campaign the Main Cause?

Srinagar, Oct 9: The work of installing CCTV cameras in process at Press Colony, Srinagar. The process on war footing basis puts a person to ponder upon the past horrible episodes, which happened with the journalists at the same place. Shujaat Bukhari editor-in-chief of rising Kashmir was murdered on 14 June 2018 by gunmen on the same spot outside his office.
It is pertinent to mention that during the last week a long list of journalists was released titled as “whole gang of so called of journalist fraternity working on Indian Payroll”, however no armed group took the responsibility of the threatening list. Mean while present increasing of the security surveillance at the Press Enclave compels every passerby to connect the dots regarding the recent vilification campaign ran against the Kashmiri media Fraternity.
The Kashmiri journalists are most vulnerable on both sides, on the side of the government agencies and equally vulnerable and threat from armed groups operating in the valley.
When CNS contacted concerned officials to comment on the issue, they said, “It is a normal security measure as surveillance has been enhanced in every city centre to avert any misadventure incident”
However whatever may be the reason behind it, it is the grim reality that journalists life is under threat from both sides.
While as it couldn’t be confirmed that is there any specific input regarding the possible threat to journalists. (CNS)
