- June 10, 2021 : Srinagar records season’s hottest day
The capital Srinagar recorded yet another hottest day of the season on Wednesday with mercury touching 34.7 degrees Celsius.
Kashmir continues to reel under a heat-wave with mercury spiking more across the region. The meteorological department has not forecast any immediate relief for the next three days.
“The system is forecasting inclement weather from June 11. There will be widespread rains on June 13,” an official said.
Srinagar recorded the highest temperature of 34.7 degree on Wednesday which was the hottest day of the season so far.
The spike in temperature has also shot up demand for power and water across the union territory with agriculture season at its peak. Across the region, complaints of shortage of drinking water and electricity supply were received.
A Met department spokesman said weather will remain mainly dry in Jammu and Kashmir till June 11 during which no significant change is expected and weather is expected to remain dry during the subsequent two days.
He said the maximum and minimum temperature witnessed further surge and was above normal in J&K, where at least two drowning incidents were reported as youth plunge in cool waters to beat the blistering heat.
The Met department said Srinagar, recorded 34.7 degree maximum temperature, highest so far this summer, and it was 6.8 degree above normal. The minimum temperature was 19.8 degree which was 6.4 notches above normal. The earlier hottest was 34.3 degree recorded yesterday.
There will be no large change as mercury will remain above normal in Srinagar on Thursday. The sky would be mainly clear to partly cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 34 degree and 20 degree respectively during the next 24 hours in the summer capital.
Gulmarg recorded 25.4 degree maximum temperature, 5.9 degree above normal while the minimum temperature was 14 degree, 5.3 degree above normal.
Pahalgam also witnessed above normal mercury. The maximum temperature there was 30.3 degree, 6.4 degree above normal while the minimum temperature was 10.4 degree, which was 3.4 notches above normal. The water level in river Lidder, passing through Pahalgam, also witnessed increase due to melting of snow on upper heights.
