Kulgam, July 13: Senior CPI(M) leader and MLA Kulgam M.Y. Tarigami on Saturday said that 13th July holds immense historical significance in the collective memory of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and no force can erase its place in their hearts.
“13th July is the day of our martyrs who sacrificed their lives to end the rule of aristocracy and dictatorship,” Tarigami “Their courage laid the foundation for democratic awakening in the region. This day is not just a date, it is part of our identity.”
Tarigami strongly criticized the decision to remove 13th July as a public holiday in December 2019, calling it an attempt to erase the region’s history. “Some people are trying to erase our identity, but we cannot and will not accept such decisions. History cannot be rewritten or removed through orders. We will wait for the time when justice is done,” he said.
He further remarked that those opposing the commemoration of Martyrs’ Day are themselves at a loss. “Whether those in power choose to declare it a holiday or not, 13th July will always live in our hearts, He added.
