Directs police to register FIR against Tehsildar
Ganderbal, Oct 6: Court of Judicial Magistrate Kangan here in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district has directed police to register a formal FIR against incumbent Tehsildar Gund Fareed Ahmed Khatana for demanding bribe and subsequently thrashing a couple in locked room. The court also recommended administrative action under law against Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal and Sub Divisional Magistrate Kangan for not initiating any action against the accused officer despite receiving complaints from the aggrieved.
The court of Judicial Magistrate Kangan Manzoor Hussain as per KNT gave these directions after one Nazira Bano and Ghulam Hyder Chachi through their Counsels alleged that Tehsildar Gund, Fareed Ahmed Khatana demanded bribe of Rs 50,000 from them in lieu of issuing revenue papers for 4 kanals of land.
When they refused to grease the palm of the Tehsildar Gund and brought the matter into the notice of Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal and subsequently SDM Kangan, this didn’t go down well with the accused officer and he allegedly thrashed and abused the complainants in a locked room.
This thrashing incident had gone viral on social media. The complaints through their Counsels had alleged that neither Deputy Commissioner, nor SDM Kangan and nor SHO Gund initiated action against the accused officer, despite receiving complaints in black and white from them.
While disposing the case, the court directed SSP Ganderbal to get an FIR lodged against the accused Tehsildar. It also ordered that a copy of the case should be dispatched to Chief Secretary so that he will take action as per law against Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal and SDM Kangan for giving cold response to the complainants.
