ARTO Anantnag conducts safety drive on Transport Commissioner’s directions
Anantnag, July 18 : Acting on the directions of the Transport Commissioner Jammu and Kashmir, a special road safety and enforcement drive was carried out today by the Flying Squad of ARTO Anantnag along the Pahalgam, Sallar, Ashmuqam route.
Details available with news agency JKNS, the checking operation focused on enforcing hill-driving safety protocols and ensuring passenger protection in high-altitude areas. Officials found multiple Tempo Travellers plying the route with their emergency exits welded shut, a violation that poses a serious threat to passenger safety.
Challans were issued on the spot against the violators under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. Officers said such practices severely compromise emergency preparedness and passenger welfare.
The drive was conducted under the supervision of ARTO Mubashir Jan, who was accompanied by his enforcement staff throughout the operation.
Authorities also checked several school buses and contract carriage vehicles. Many were found breaching safety norms and were accordingly challaned during the operation.
Operators have been strictly warned to restore emergency exit mechanisms immediately. Officials warned that non-compliance may attract harsher penalties, including vehicle blacklisting.
