For the survival of life, every organism makes all the possible efforts on this earth. Birth and death: both are natural processes every living organism has to undergo. This world is full of mystery, and every mystery has solutions. Some mysteries take little time; some take years, and still, some are such that their causes are not known yet.
Natality and mortality rates must remain balanced on this earth so that population growth keeps balancing on this earth.
Living organisms die due to accidents, ageing, and diseases, and have a number of causes. Death is certain; every human has to undergo this process, and this natural process has no alternative, no medicine, and no technology.
Why do we feel heartbroken in the demise of any human, whether he is our kin or not?
This is natural; humans have emotions we feel. We got excited; we feel the pain of any human who is having any sort of trouble.
On the 5th of January 2025, a five-member husband-wife duo and their three children die due to suffocation in Pandrethan, Srinagar. This incident still remains viral on social media, print media, etc. Everyone mourns this incident with profound grief and extends their blessings for the noble souls. These incidents are not new; during winter, people used to keep their rooms warm by different heating gadgets like gas heaters and wooden gadgets. Water gadgets, Kashmiri kangiris, etc. (an earthen fire pot).
The deceased family was from Gangyal, Uri, and was living in rented accommodation in Pandrethan, Srinagar. I still feel heartbroken and have my blessings for the deceased family. It is quite heart-wrenching that three children also died in the incident. The whole administration from the police department, health department, and politicians felt grief over the incident and shared the profound grief with their relatives.
I wish may Allah grant them the choicest place in Jannat. Amen.
How can we minimize such incidents in the Kashmir Valley to zero percent?
We know we are living in the extreme north zone of the country, so we experience extreme cold in minus degrees. The harsh winter starts from the 21st of December every year with the arrival of a 40-day hard period commonly known as sheshar maas in Kashmir and chillai kallan as well. Water taps, rivers, and roads, sewage drainage systems freeze during winters. It is very hard to survive without having any heating gadget.
We have electric gadgets, but it is not possible to keep them on all the time due to the electricity shortage. During winter the Kashmir Valley often experiences electricity shortages. So people have kept kangris, wooden hamaams, in their homes so they can keep warm and avoid common colds, coughs, fevers, etc. What measures should administration take to put an end to such incidents?
People should be aware regarding suffocation. How it causes, how to safeguard your family. How to keep your rooms warm without taking any risks, and how can we avert risks due to such incidents?
Gas heaters should be modified so that oxygen consumption of such heaters should be minimized to zero. Different alternatives must be introduced in the market that should be safe and in everyone’s pockets reach.
