Public Outrage Over Rising Trend of Underage Driving
Srinagar, 23 July 2025: In a disturbing incident that has sparked public anger and renewed safety concerns, a group of minors allegedly crashed a vehicle along the Bund in Baghat Barzulla area of Srinagar district late Tuesday evening before fleeing the scene with visible injuries.
Eyewitnesses say the vehicle, driven recklessly, lost control and fell into a barrier. Moments later, a few visibly injured teenagers were seen stumbling out of the car and escaping on foot, leaving behind a trail of shattered glass and unanswered questions.
Locals rushed to the site and immediately raised alarm, not just about the crash, but the troubling rise in underage driving across the Kashmir division.
“This is not the first time. We’ve seen school-going boys & girls driving unsupervised—it’s only a matter of time before these incidents become fatal,” said a concerned resident of the area.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the crash, and efforts are on to trace the minors involved. However, the larger question looms Who gave them the keys?
