Srinagar, July 1, 2025 : PDP Protest Foiled in Srinagar Over Civic Issues

Authorities on Monday thwarted a protest march by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) near the General Post Office (GPO) at Lal Chowk, Srinagar. The protest was aimed at drawing attention to pressing public concerns, including soaring electricity tariffs, acute drinking water shortages, and deteriorating civic conditions across the Kashmir Valley.

Led by senior PDP leaders, the demonstrators had gathered peacefully to voice their frustration over what they termed as “government apathy” towards essential public services. However, police personnel swiftly intervened and stopped the protest, preventing the march from proceeding further.

Speaking to reporters, PDP leaders criticized the administration for failing to address basic needs of the people and silencing democratic voices through such restrictions.

The incident sparked sharp political reactions, with the PDP terming the police action as “undemocratic” and a “violation of the people’s right to protest.”

The situation remained under control, and no untoward incidents were reported during the brief standoff.
