Road Safety Awareness Week Awareness programme held at GGM Science College

JAMMU, JANUARY 18: In connection with the Road Safety Awareness Week, NSS Unit of GGM Science College held Road Safety Awareness events in College campus.

The event was organized with the Theme for National Road Safety Week 2022 i.e Sadak Suraksha–Jeevan Raksha under the guidance of Raj Paul Singh, Additional SP Traffic City Jammu, Dr. Rajesh Gupta, College Principal and Dr. Narinder Kumar, NSS PO.

The NSS PO started the event with quotations as “Safety First is Safety Always.” Government’s first duty and highest obligation is public safety, “Nothing is of greater importance than the conservation of human life.” “The speedway ends at the cemetery.” He underlined that the central government introduced the Motor Vehicles Amendment Bill in 2019 with the aim to improve road conditions for safety of lives in Indian states and union territories.

Dr. Rajesh Gupta, Principal of the College emphasised that the awareness week is celebrated with the aim to encourage road safety practices among people.

Addl. SP said that the road safety week emphasizes the importance of prioritizing safety when travelling by any mode of transportation. He added that it is a crucial step in view of the increasing number of deaths due to accidents.

“Every year road crashes result in loss of lakhs of precious human lives and serious injuries to crores of people. In India itself   more than 1.5 lakh people are killed in road crashes every year,” he added and emphasized that sensitization among Youth regarding Road Safety is necessary as they are the future of India.

Dy. SP Satish Kumar appraised the gathering that it is the duty of every citizen to wear helmet, seatbelt etc for safety while driving.

Dr. Vinod Bakshi Director physical education motivated the volunteers to organise such a type of workshop in the college in the near future.
