Ramban, June 28 : A tragic accident on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway claimed two lives on Saturday when a truck veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in Ramban district’s Nachilana area.
The ill-fated truck was on its way to Srinagar from Jammu when the driver reportedly lost control, sending the vehicle hurtling down the steep slope. Officials confirmed that both occupants, the driver and his helper, died on the spot.
The deceased driver has been identified as Raju, a resident of Udhampur, while the helper’s identity is being ascertained. Their bodies were retrieved by rescue teams and shifted to the Sub-District Hospital Banihal for medico-legal formalities.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash, which is suspected to have been caused by a mechanical failure or slippery road conditions.
Frequent accidents along this vulnerable highway stretch continue to raise serious safety concerns, especially during the ongoing monsoon season. (CNS)
