Washington [US], January 6: According to CNN, the US and Germany decided on Thursday (local time) to provide Ukraine with fighting vehicles amid reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin had sent one of his nation’s most advanced warships on a lengthy journey through the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea and into the Indian Ocean.

Bradley combat vehicles will be sent by the US to Ukraine, while a Patriot air defence battery and Marder infantry fighting vehicles will be provided by Germany.
According to Emily Haber, the German ambassador to the US, Germany chose to provide Ukraine Marder infantry combat vehicles and an extra Patriot air defence unit.

“Germany will provide Ukraine with Marder infantry combat vehicles[?].” Additionally, we’ll work with the US to provide a second Patriot air defence battery, she said on Twitter.
The German military has been using the Marder, an infantry combat vehicle, since the early 1970s. Although hundreds of the vehicles are still in use, the German military is phasing them out.

A highly equipped armoured vehicle used to transport troops across the battlefield is known as an infantry combat vehicle. It often deploys with main combat tanks.
As Ukraine approaches the one-year mark since Russia’s invasion, the United States will provide it with Bradley combat vehicles as part of a new security aid programme, according to CNN.

One of the greatest shipments of military hardware from the Pentagon to Ukraine since the conflict started is the approximately USD 3 billion shipment. It happens when Ukraine gets ready for protracted conflict in the spring as the temperature rises.
Over Thursday, US President Joe Biden and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke on the phone and confirmed the new pledge.

While Russia steps up its attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine, a new security package is released. In order to defend against Russian aggression, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who recently paid a visit to the White House, has requested further support from Western countries. According to CNN, he said that the assistance was “an investment in the ged Russian battleship with Zircon hypersonic missile, long-range weaponry that move more than five times the speed of sound and are more difficult to detect and intercept.” He claimed that the assistance was not “charity.”
According to a report from the TASS news agency, on Wednesday, the frigate Admiral Gorshkov departed from an undisclosed port in northern Russia after Putin talked with the ship’s captain and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu via video connection.

According to sources from the period, Russia tested the Zircon system in late 2021 by shooting from Admiral Gorshkov in the White Sea and striking a naval target more than 400 kilometres (250 miles) distant.
Its first deployment in a hypothetical conflict scenario would be the present mission.

According to a Kremlin statement on Thursday, Putin has called for a temporary ceasefire and instructed his defence minister to put one into effect in Ukraine for 36 hours this week so that Orthodox Christians may attend Christmas services.
Following Patriarch Kirill of Moscow’s demand for a cease-fire between January 6 and January 7, when many Orthodox Christians celebrate Christmas, Putin issued his directive.

But the US and Ukraine brushed it off as a cunning ruse. According to CNN, Zelenskyy said that Moscow intended to restock using the Orthodox Christmas holiday as “cover.”
Zelenskyy said in his nightly speech that Russia intends to use Orthodox Christmas “as a cover” to restock and halt Ukrainian advances in the eastern Donbas area.

“What is this going to achieve? Only another rise in the death toll,” he said.
Putin informed Recep Tayyip Erdogan, his Turkish counterpart, that although Moscow is willing to engage in “serious conversation” over Ukraine, Kiev must recognise “new geographical realities.”

Erdogan, who plans to act as a mediator in the Russia-Ukraine dispute until 2022, spoke on the phone separately with Presidents Putin and Zelenskyy on Thursday.
In his statement, Zelensky said that he and Erdogan “discussed security cooperation” between their two nations as well as “nuclear safety problems, in particular the situation at ZNPP (Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Station).” (ANI)
