29 shopkeepers booked for exploiting consumers

A fine Rs 93,200 realized from 415 defaulters

Srinagar: 22th Oct. Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs and Legal Meteorology Departments have imposed Rs93,200 fine during its week-long raids and inspection visits of various vegetable, fruit, meat shops in various parts of the city.
An official told news agency KNT that inspection teams overall carried out 1804 inspections of food outlets and imposed fines as per the law for overcharging and exploiting the consumers.
“Meat shops, vegetable and fruit sellers, and poultry farms were inspected. Out of 1804 establishments, 415 defaulters were fined,” the official said.
He added that 29 defaulters including 10 vegetable sellers, 10 meat sellers, and 9 others were booked for exploiting consumers, and formal FIR’s were registered against them.
“Such inspections will continue in future as well,” the official told KNT.
