Srinagar: Residents of Rajpora here staged a protest over the acute shortage of water in the area.

The protesters mostly women from Rajpora raised slogans against Public Health Engineering (PHE) department and blocked the road near Zacheldara Behnipora for almost an hour, using wooden logs and Pots.

Eyewitnesses told the protesters, holding sticks in their hands, sat on a dharna, chanting slogans against the PHE Department.

They said even as the area was reeling under acute shortage of water from past two weeks, the authorities have failed to restore water supply or take any tangible measure despite repeated pleas. The protesters said the PHE department has “taken them for a ride thus leaving no option for them but to stage the protest.”
