Srinagar, Oct 20: The Joint Hurriyat Leadership of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik Friday called for a complete shutdown and civil curfew on October 21 (Saturday against the unabated braid-chopping incidents.
In a statement issued here, the leadership appealed the “freedom-loving” people to observe civil curfew and send a strong message to the people who want to target Kashmiri women that such incidents are not acceptable.
“The braid-cutting incidents are an Indian ploy to target women in Kashmir through specially trained persons,” the leaders said.
They said the decision was taken during a meeting on Thursday evening at the residence of Geelani at Hyderpora.
The leaders also discussed the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir and efforts to abrogate state subject laws.
They also appealed to the people not to harm any suspects and “instead hand them over to Masjid committees”
