"Follow Rules Always, Not Just During Drives," Emphasizes RTO Kashmir

Srinagar:- In a bid to instill a culture of responsible driving and adherence to road safety norms, the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kashmir has urged citizens to consistently follow traffic rules, not just during awareness drives or enforcement campaigns led by the Traffic Police and the Transport Department.

Speaking at a public event in Srinagar, the RTO highlighted the growing concern over the temporary compliance observed during such initiatives. “We want people to follow rules as responsible citizens at all times, not just during drives launched by the Traffic Police and Transport Department,” the officer stated, emphasizing the need for a mindset shift towards safer road practices.

The RTO underscored the alarming rise in road accidents due to negligence, over-speeding, and disregard for traffic regulations. He stressed that adhering to traffic rules should be seen as a personal responsibility rather than a forced obligation.

“Road safety is a shared responsibility. Every individual has a role to play in ensuring a safe commute for themselves and others,” he added.

The Transport Department has been actively organizing awareness programs, workshops, and enforcement drives to educate the public on traffic regulations. However, the RTO expressed concern that the effectiveness of these efforts is often short-lived, with citizens reverting to unsafe practices once the campaigns conclude.

The RTO called for stricter penalties for violators and urged the public to cooperate with authorities by internalizing the principles of road safety. He also appealed to educational institutions, NGOs, and media outlets to join hands in spreading awareness about the importance of traffic discipline.

The officer concluded his remarks by reaffirming the department’s commitment to reducing road accidents and fatalities in the region. “A consistent effort by citizens and authorities alike will pave the way for safer roads and a more responsible society,” he said.

This message serves as a reminder that true change begins when every individual recognizes their role in upholding the law—not out of compulsion, but out of care and concern for human lives.
