Srinagar, Nov 23: Kashmiri Pandit Sangarash Samiti (KPSS) has restarted its second phase of fast unto death on Monday at GANPATYAR Srinagar in protest against the failure of the Government to settle the demands of Kashmiri Hindus living in Valley.
The fast was led by president of KPSS Sanjay Tickoo. In a statement issued to CNS on Monday, the KPSS said that when the demands of the Samiti were not fulfilled it resorted to fast unto death on September 20 this year at Srinagar and on September 30 the fast was called off on the assurance of district administration when Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, on behalf of J&K UT Administration, handed over a communication to them assuring that the memorandum of demands of the Samiti would be placed before the Government for consideration on priority and a meeting with KPSS would be organized soon.
It said district administration further assured that it would follow-up all the genuine demands projected by KPSS. On October 5, 2020, a delegation of KPS met Baseer Khan, Advisor to LT. Governor in the presence of Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar. The Advisor promised that the demands would be considered within a week and final meeting will be called with functionaries of KPSS soon. Since then, the Samiti is waiting for the final meeting but it never took place. Almost 50 days have passed, but there is no progress in the matter compelling Sanjay Tickoo, president of KPSS, undertake Second phase of fast unto death along with young activist of KPSS, Sandeep Koul.
It said as no headway was made in settling the demands the KPSS was forced to launch second phase of fast unto death today.
The KPSS is demanding implementation of High Court directions and recommendations of the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding jobs to the unemployed educated Kashmiri Pandits.
It is also demanding one time age relaxation to all the over-age candidates’ w.e.f. 31.05.2016 (date of the judgment passed by High Court in OWP 1986/2013 titled Kashmiri Pandit Sangarash Samiti and others Vs. Union of India and others), monthly financial aid to 808 non-migrant Kashmiri Pandit families living in Kashmir Valley, providing accommodation to all deserving non-migrant Kashmiri Pandit living in Kashmir Valley as per recommendations of the Ministry of Home Affairs, extension of benefits of Migrant Welfare Fund to the non-migrant Kashmiri Pandits living in Kashmir Valley.
