Sushant Singh Rajput Case: 80,000 Fake Accounts Created

October 6, 2020

Mumbai: In a shocking discovery, Mumbai Police’s cyber unit has detected over 80,000 fake accounts that were created to discredit the force for its handling of actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death investigation.
“We identified the posts in foreign languages because of the hashtags used like #justiceforsushant #sushantsinghrajput and #SSR. We’re in the process of verifying more accounts,” a senior IPS officer quoted as saying.
Mumbai police commissioner, Param Bir Singh asserts that these accounts were created to not only insult the Mumbai police but also the state of Maharashtra and its current government.
“The campaign was run against Mumbai police just to demoralize us at a time when 84 policemen had died due to the pandemic and over 6,000 men were infected with the virus. This was a motivated campaign with vested interest just to malign the image of Mumbai police and derail our line of investigation,” said Param Bir Singh.
When asked whether Mumbai police will take any action, the commissioner said that its cyber cell is investigating.
“Multiple fake accounts on social media were created to target Mumbai police with abusive tones. Our cyber cell is conducting a thorough investigation into this matter and all those found violating the law will be prosecuted under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act,” concluded Param Bir Singh.
According to a report from Mumbai Police’s cyber unit, these fake accounts demanding for justice for Sushant Singh Rajput and the ones to abuse Mumbai police were created in different countries like Italy, Japan, Poland, Slovenia, Indonesia, Turkey, Thailand, Romania, and France.
